This was the most fun and finger lickin’ good activity Ruby & I have done together! You totally missed out on a good one! But fear not, they have more future events planned!
This past Thursday my tiny tots and I headed to the Lafayette Gourmet area on the 2nd floor where we met with a handful of other Mom’s + the amazing pastry chef’s Russell (culinary director) & Mihaly. This event was totally free, not to mention well organized AND thought out.
We each picked a spot on a bench and the team laid out a variety of tools and ingredients to get us started. Russell and Mihaly made their rounds insuring everything was running smoothly (literally) and helped the little ones with a few whisking techniques. Ruby poured her ingredients one by one, brown sugar, butter, chocolate. She was on cloud 9! Once our ingredients were up to par, our batch of cake mix was poured into piping bags and stored in the chiller for us to take home after the class.
We weren’t finish just yet! They brought out pre-made cakes (the same cake as the mix we made) and we smothered them to death in chocolaty ganache! Back in the chiller they went and on to the final step!
Decorating! We watched intently as Mihaly rolled out red fondant, cutting out heart shapes and showing us how to create the perfect handmade fondant roses (I need to work on my skills).
By the time we were finished up, we were on our way with our cake all decorated + boxed for our drive home! PLUS our cake mix! It was SO much fun, a great way to end our hectic week, and now we have something to look forward to this weekend (eating cake + baking).
Thank you to the Galeries Lafayette team and chefs!
Stay tuned for a recipe on how YOU can make this very same cake! It is scrumdiddlyumptious!
