Baptism @ St. Stephen’s Cathedral-Vienna, Austria

The last two months have been hectic…trying to plan for my son Nate’s first birthday party, and then his baptism all the way in Austria! On one hand I am glad they are both over, on the other hand…I wish I could relive each occasion once more!

It was a beautiful day that we celebrated on Saturday, May 3rd 2014.

Prior to his baptism, we met with our priest Father Thomas adjacent to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. He invited us into his office which was filled to the brim with antiques and church memorabilia, a lovely sight to witness. We went over the plan of Nate’s baptism and how the ceremony would be conducted; a few prayers that would be recited and how we would sing “Child of God”. My brother Jordan (who flew in from Canada, as did my parents) was present, we chose him to be Nate’s godfather. At 4pm we rushed back to the church where Nate would be christened. We were fortunate enough to have both our children christened at the famous {St. Stephen’s Cathedral} (along with my husband back in 1983). My husbands grandfather Felix was a stone mason there in the mid 1900’s, so our family has a lot of history at this church, and it meant the World to me to continue the tradition with our little ones.

Little Nate donned a sweet white outfit by Jacadi {cotton bodysuit}, {linen overalls}, {cotton cardigan}, {canvas tennis sneakers}. He was originally meant to be fitted head to toe in Il Gufo {this outfit}, however we had a mishap with the sizing and had to swap 🙁 I was devastated to say the least. You know how much I love Il Gufo!

Luckily Ruby was able to sport something by the luxury Italian Children’s clothing line (Il Gufo here). And boy did she look charming in that matelassé cotton dress! I wore a colorful pink and orange sherbet floral dress by Calvin Klein, a vintage gold necklace, a handmade flower brooch from Il Gufo that I received at the launch party in The Dubai Mall and emerald pumps from {Shoe Mart}.

After the baptism was completed we headed over to a traditional Austrian restaurant to be wined and dined. The color palette I chose was mint green and baby blue.

I purchased many of the items seen on the table from Etsy. The banner was from {here}, the dove place cards {here}, the cake topper {here}. The beautiful cake was created at {Kurkonditorei Oberlaa}, my favourite bakery in Vienna. It was simply stunning! The table was adorned with fresh flowers and mixed herbs in mini green glass vases, and wooden picture frames showcasing Nate’s 1st year of life (which I picked up at Daiso). I designed and created the menu cards myself and adorned each napkin with raffia. The favors that each guest took home were miniature baby carriages. Each favor was filled with chocolates and individually wrapped with stickers of Nate’s name and the blue dove I used on the menu cards. I also designed the thank you cards attached to them.

The celebration could not have been more perfect! I hope you liked some of the ideas I used for his special day!
