Holidays: The Ultimate DIY Advent Calendar!

Ruby & Nate are SO lucky! This year to get them in the festive season my Mom & Dad (their grandparents from Canada) put together the most AMAZING Christmas advent calendar!!

Too bad I didn’t get a picture of the box earlier as they are now almost half way through their calendar!

What’s this box all about you ask?

There are 24 numbers across the 4 sides of the box. Each day the kids have to punch a hole on the correct number of the day. After they punch the hole through the box, they find a string attached to the cardboard and have to pull it out. My parents went all out and got them some pretty rad toys & little Christmas trinkets. So far the biggest hit of them all has been “Flarp-Noise Putty”.

You may want to pin this idea for next year.

What You Need:

  • Large Box
  • Wrapping Paper
  • Cord
  • Ribbon
  • X-Acto Knife
  • Permanent Marker
  • Strong Hold Tape

  1. Take large box and tape the bottom securely shut
  2. Using a large size cup or Tupperware lid make 24 circles on the inside of the box (6 holes on each side of the box)
  3. Mark each circle with a number from 1-24 on the inside of the box (scatter the numbers all over the box so each day the kids have to turn the box to find the number)
  4. Using an X-Acto knife cut the circles 3/4 around (leaving a small part still fully attached)
  5. Wrap your present with wine/wool/ribbon whatever you have available leaving a few inches hanging to secure the end to one of the numbered circles. Tape well.
  6. Wrap box (leave top part open)
  7. Number the box on the outside
  8. Wrap top part of box
  9. Decorate with ribbon, tinsel or garland

 This is also a nice idea if you decide to use smaller trinkets {DIY Punch Box Advent Calendar}
