I went to watch the multi award-winning musical “Mary Poppins” with Nate and two of my very special and dear neighbors (Nate’s fairy grandparents) last night.
It was absolutely breathtaking and spectacular in every way imaginable! I laughed, I sang along (in my head), had tears, clapped, cheered, goosebumps, the whole nine yards! It was truly Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
I had to pinch myself at times because I felt like I was watching a movie and not a live theater play. It was THAT flawless! The quality of audio, visual effects, dancing/choreography, the lighting, acting, singing were ALL *5 star!
“The stage production of MARY POPPINS is brilliantly adapted from the wonderful stories by PL Travers and the beloved Walt Disney film. It is co-created by Cameron Mackintosh and has a book by Oscar-winning screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellowes. With a timeless score by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman including the songs; Jolly Holiday, Step in Time, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Feed the Birds with new songs and additional music and lyrics by the Olivier award-winning British team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.”
How about the Dubai Opera theater? It was like I was sitting in an opulent Opera house in say… Vienna! I HIGHLY recommend watching Mary Poppins and especially at the beautiful Dubai Opera! Well done to the entire cast and crew for putting on a seamless musical right here in the Middle East!
ALL of the characters were wonderful; but my personal favorite was of course-Mary Poppins, Bert and Valentine the doll!
Nate is 4, he sat through the show like a pro and enjoyed it to the max (the first thing he did when he woke up this morning was sing “A Spoon Full of Sugar”). I guess it depends on your child’s patience level or if they can manage to stay up past their bedtime. I was lucky because I forced him to have a late nap late yesterday afternoon (until 6pm). Otherwise I would not have been able to keep him awake until 10:30pm!
Mary Poppins is playing at the Dubai Opera for one more week (until May 25th). Shows are daily at 7:45pm sharp (do not be late!). On the weekend they have an added matinee. The show duration is approximately two hours and fifty minutes which includes a 20 minute interval. You can order various nibbles inspired by the musical such as : Mary Poppins salad (25 aed), Chim Chim Cher-Ee slow cooked chicken on khameer bread (30 AED), Bert- beef and arugula Focaccia (30 AED), Practically Perfect- smoked salmon bagel (30 AED), Mrs. Banks- Lamington Cake (20 AED).
The musical was SO good, I am actually considering to go back a SECOND time to watch it!
