If you come to Vienna, chances are someone is going to tell you that you absolutely must go to Figlmüller to try their 100 + year old famous schnitzel! And chances are you are going to do it because…it’s THAT good and actually you can’t come to Austria and NOT try a schnitzel! So while you are at the restaurant located in the first district of Vienna (Wollzeile) you can also pop into my favorite souvenir shop! Another incredibly nostalgic spot! It has been around since 1837!!! So why not kill two birds with one stone?
Down the picturesque alleyway right on the corner next to Figlmüller is ‘Papierhaus A. Katzer‘ at Wollzeile 5, 1010 Vienna. You can’t miss it with their beautiful window displays!
What makes this store so special for me are all the little curiosities and old fashioned things you will find here. For example, vintage-inspired paper dolls which you have to cut out individually to play with (SO hard to find). They would make a beautiful gift for a young girl (my daughter still loves them!).
They also sell things like wax stamps for letters, stationery, fountain pens, leather-bound books, pretty postcards & greeting cards.
And albeit not Austrian, they have a very sweet line of Scandinavian designed mice that come packaged in little handmade matchstick boxes! My children are ALWAYS asking me to buy them one!
Hope this little hidden gem brings you as much joy as it does for us! Be sure to check out Papierhaus A. Katzer on Facebook for more info HERE
